Shagreen became an important type of Leather for luxury accessories in the 17th and 18th century. It was a highly prized material in the French court of Louis XV made from sharkskin. Now Shagreen is made from the Stingray which is a member of the Ray family of fishes. This unique jewelry box is made of high quality faux shagreen in gorgeous green tones.
